If you love spending time outdoors, nothing makes it easier and more enjoyable than having the right outdoor rug to sit, recline or flat out lie on!
From a cosy 0.9 x 1.8m, right up to the “granddaddy” of our outdoor mat range, the Diamond 2.4 x 7m (!), we have an outdoor mat for gatherings of all sizes. In a myriad of designs and colourways, you’ll be spoilt for choice – from geometrics to retro florals, Aboriginal motifs to funky kids designs. And they’re reversible, so each of our large outdoor mats can be flipped over to show a different dominant colour – two looks for the price of one!
Did you know that Recycled Mats is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of large outdoor rugs? Each one of our mats is made from repurposed polypropylene (a type of plastic) that is sourced from food containers, medicine bottles, drink bottles and shopping bags.
How are the Large Outdoor Mats Made?
Plastic items that would normally make their way to landfills (and many into our oceans and waterways) are instead collected, washed, shredded, melted and cooled into pellet form.
The pellets are then melted again and blended with coloured dyes to form our base colours. This molten liquid is fed through a tube and into a water pool where the plastic is cooled into long tubes that are used to weave the mat. Each of our outdoor mat designs has its own “mould” which determines the details of the design during the machinated weaving process.
Features of our Large Outdoor Mats
All of our annex mats that are 4+m in length come with eyelets included as well as a strong, recycled polyester carry bag. They’re also UV treated during production to help protect them from sun damage though we do recommend that our outdoor mats are not exposed to continual direct sunlight.
Our large outdoor mats are sturdy yet lightweight – the largest mat (7m) weighs approx. 8kg – making them easy to transport and store. Even the kids can help to get the campsite set up!
Being waterproof, they make an ideal barrier against wet or damp ground and will lessen the amount of dirt and mud that will get traipsed through your outdoor living space or caravan. They'll also provide a cushioned floor space protecting delicate feet from sharp stones, sticks, hot sand and ground dwelling bugs. Super easy to clean, you only need to sweep, shake or vacuum the dirt away and if your outdoor mat is in need of a more thorough clean, wet with a hose and brush off stubborn muck with a soft broom. You can then just hang it on a fence or lie it out flat to dry. Easy peasy! For more tips, please see our blog post here.
Our large outdoor mats are also reversible, meaning you get two looks for the price of one. Just flip your mat over to show the other dominant colour on the upside. Not only will this give you an instant "style refresh", it will help extend the lifespan of your mat.
Setting Up Your Outdoor Space
Just by adding a large outdoor mat, you can double your living space! Whether it be in the backyard, at the local park, on the beach or in the middle of the bush, with the right mat, it's possible to create a stylish, comfortable and multi-functional outdoor "room" for you and your loved ones to spread out and relax in.
If it's dining and living space you need, just add chairs, a camp table, some lighting, and you're ready to entertain night or day. Up the comfort and style stats with some giant cushions, cheeseboards or portable picnic tables, Shooaways and other natural repellents and for those lucky enough to be overnighting, how about a firepit to really set the mood for stargazing and storytelling? Memories to cherish for a life time are so easily made when spending time with loved ones in our great outdoors.
