This striking combination of yellow and black on our 'Tracks mat' is great for home, office or classrooms
Australian Aboriginal artist De Greer Yindimincarlie, of the Wiradjuri Nation in central New South Wales, designed this mat using a variety of different Aboriginal figures to tell the story of traditional community life. Look closely to see symbols for campsites, warriors, women and kangaroo tracks.
These mats are so popular as teaching tools. They are a practical introduction to Indigenous symbolism in art, and they open our minds to the world of storytelling through pictures. 'Tracks' provides the perfect opportunity to discuss your own or other cultures while children read, eat or play on a colourful and comfortable indoor or outdoor mat. This mat is one of our most popular indigenous school mats for primary and preschool-aged children. See how Recycled Mats' Indigenous designs can meet the outcomes of the Educational Curriculum.
Like our entire range of recycled outdoor mats, 'Tracks' is hard-wearing and easy to clean – wipe away dirt and dust, or hose it off and dry it in the shade. Made from recycled plastics, it is light enough to carry or fold up for transport or storage. It's so convenient to move it from place to place - eg ‘home corner’ to ‘story corner’. Best of all, it loves to go outside for a picnic lunch.
This innovative material is soft and comfortable for sitting and walking on, but also extremely hardwearing. The striking colours ensure it’s an eye-catching addition to any library, community centre or office foyer and being reversible, it gives you two colour choices for display. Choose black one day, yellow the next or whatever suits your decor and mood. This is not only fun but will also extend the life of your mat - it's like having 2 mats for the price of 1!
These mats make diversity education easy at home or at school and pair well with another classroom resource The Little Black Game Pack. Click here for an interesting read about teaching Aboriginal culture in primary school.
We're now exploring how we can 're-recycle' your unwanted mats! Our exciting initiative for re-purposing and re-using them is a must-read.
